Abbazia PragliaAbano Terme stands in an enviable location, surrounded by the beauty of the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills (Parco Regionale dei Colli Euganei) which covers an area of more than 18,000 hectares and takes in some delightful cities with a history dating back a thousand years.

It is an enchanting location that is absolutely idealfor those with a passion for culture, nature or sport.

Just a few kilometres from Abano stands the magnificent Abbey of Praglia, which is still home to around fifty Benedictine monks. The guided tour of this ancient building and its picturesque cloisters allows visitors to soak up the atmosphere of a bygone time. We also recommend stopping off at the herbal shop where you will find some herbal concoctions prepared by the monks themselves.

A picturesque and perfectly preserved mountain hamlet named after Francesco Petrarca, who spent the last years of his life here. A visit to the poet’s house, with its perfectly preserved 12th century appearance, is an absolute must.

The imposing Catajo Castle, in the municipality of Battaglia Terme, not far from Abano, is well worth a visit. This magnificent building contains more than 350 rooms (only part of which is visible) some of which contain frescoes by Giovann Battista Zelotti, a student of Veronese. It is surrounded by a vast park and an enchanting Garden of Delights (Giardino delle Delizie).

Este, Monselice and Montagnana are all equally delightful cities that are easy to get to from Abano. They have splendid medieval fortifications that are absolutely worth visiting.

The entire area of the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills (Parco Regionale dei Colli Euganei) is criss-crossed by an extensive network of pathways waiting to be explored on foot or by bicycle. To download a map of these pathways visit the Park’s official webpage here
